Saturday Science: Refraction

One of our favorite ways to make bath time more fun is to throw some glow sticks in the water. If you’ve never done this before, you should try it, the glow sticks make the whole bath water glow.

Of course, as with everything, there is an explanation behind why this works the way it does… (more…)

Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Small World Play in the Bath Tub

Its that time of year again, the time when we all watch holiday specials and get nostalgic. Or maybe its just me who does that for Halloween. In any case, I love that my children both enjoy the Peanuts gang as much as I did as a child. I especially love that they request to watch Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. I wanted to expand on their interest, so I created this small world play for them in the bath tub.

Fire Theme Bath

I try to give the kids a theme bath at the end of every week. It is a fun way to put a cap on whatever we learned that week in school and a great way to start the weekend out on a good note. Unfortunately I’ve slacked off about the weekly theme baths these past couple months. We were long overdue.

Watermelon Theme Bath

Summer time without watermelon is like a birthday without cake and ice cream. I know I’m not alone in feeling this way because there have been countless watermelon themed ideas popping up all over Pinterest, Facebook, and the mom-blog world for several weeks now. Our own family is on our….11th? or maybe its 12th…watermelon of the season and we decided to extend the fun that is watermelon into a theme bath.

Bear with me because the pictures aren’t the greatest quality. I could blame the camera but really I’m just a horrid photographer, lol.

Teaching Children with an Age Gap and a Themed Bath

One of the struggles I face in both parenting and teaching my children is their age gap.
3 years is practically nothing for adults, and even teenagers with a 3 year age difference can relate on many academic subjects.
But for very young children, 3 years can be a world of difference. (more…)

Hot Wheels Paint Tracks in the Bath Tub

Happy weekend everyone!

Every Saturday I give LittleMan an open-ended creative prompt. This week’s creative prompt was hot wheels cars with paint on a piece of construction paper. There was some paint left over so I decided to extend the creative prompt into the bath tub.

Bubbly Bath Time with a Giant Sponge

Here’s something I’ve been meaning to post about for a while now.
I mentioned storage for our giant sponge when I did the virtual tour of our children’s art studio but I never did say what it is we do with a giant sponge…

Playing with Legos in the Bathtub

Sometimes LittleMan gets so engrossed in his Legos that he doesn’t want to stop for anything- not to eat, not to sleep, and certainly not to bathe.

Usually Marmaduke and I tell him, “tough luck, its dinner/bed/bath time. You can play legos tomorrow.”
But occasionally we find a way to compromise.

Like this Lego bath.
