Farm Animal Sensory Bin

SunnyGirl is finally showing an interest in learning about the sounds animals make and what different animals are called. This is a very simple bin designed to encourage this new found interest in animals as well as encourage sorting by size.

The base is uncooked oats, on top of which are some autumn silk leaves. For animals we have a large cow, sheep, and pig as well as a small cow, sheep, and pig.

SunnyGirl has pretty much mastered scoops, spoons, forks, and small spears so I wanted to try re-introducing her to tongs. Our previous attempts at tongs have not gone well and SunnyGirl has just recently been able to handle them without breaking them.

Sidenote, I’ve noticed that SunnyGirl learns more willingly from her older brother than she does from me. I could tell her that a cow goes “moo” until I am blue in the face but, until LittleMan tells her a cow goes “moo,” it doesn’t seem to sink in. Luckily LittleMan is animal-obsessed and always willing to talk with her about them.
