New Year’s Resolutions for Geeks

Welcome back to the On Beyond Zombie Linky Party and also, Happy New Year!

We all know the typical New Year’s resolutions: Eat healthier. Exercise more. Organize your house. Kick a bad habit. Save some money.
Things that are all well and good but we all know very few people will still be working those resolutions on February 1st. Still it is human nature to want to improve one’s self and the new year seems like as good an excuse as any to give it a go.

Geeky New Year's Resolutions

As geeks raising the next generation of geeklings, our goals might vary a bit from the average person. Sure we probably want to eat healthier and be more organized to, who doesn’t? But you wouldn’t see a normie writing a resolution to…..create an amazing cosplay for ComicCon, for example.

So I talked to some of my fellow geek parents about their New Year’s resolutions and this is what they told me:

Natalie of Planet Smarty Pants says, “My 8 year old has a resolution to win a math contest. And we certainly want to visit the Maker’s Faire again this year. It was a blast last year!”

Laurie of Inspiring NH Kids vows, “My entire New Year’s resolution is to finish building Hogwart’s castle with my son. He has the entire set, I mean all of the sets, and he keeps on asking me to help him, so I’m planning on doing it and finishing it in 2015. Also, my son’s is to win the NH state spelling championship.”

Kristan of Munchkin and Bean wants to keep things fun, “We plan to create more kid-friendly geeky crafts, play more board games, build more Lego’s and finally go to a gaming convention (PAX East!)”

Jennifer of True Confessions of a Real Mommy has simple goals, “Expand out tabletop game repertoire.”

MaryAnne of Mama Smiles – Joyful Parenting has an ambitious daughter, “My 8yo’s goal is to practice piano 1 hour every day. And her favorite things from 2014 were drama and learning cursive.”

Jaime of Frogs Snails and Puppy Dog Tails vows, “Find fun ways to play and learn with a Star Wars theme for my younglings.”

Stephanie (Facebook fan of Suzy Homeschooler) says, “I’d love to watch more classic Doctor Who. And catch up with the current season. My 5 year old is allowed to see a few now. And I want to learn sign-language and some Ukrainian. Hopefully I can teach the kids too. Also, I want to squeeze in more time for family geocaching.”

So what about you? What are your resolutions in the new year? What are your geeklings’ resolutions? We love to hear from our readers!
