When I was a little girl in school, I remember everyone in my class having a caterpillar on the wall. Every time we read a book, we got to add a segment to our caterpillar. It was so fun to watch those caterpillars grow and grow.
Not every child cares for caterpillars though. And even those that do may not find caterpillars to be particularly motivating.
There is one thing though that this generation does understand: the thrill of unlocking an achievement in a video game.
The idea is simple: Books are a quest, finishing the quest unlocks a new achievement.
Just download this Achievement Unlocked Free Printable (click here), print out however many you need (there are 5 achievements per page, so 5 books per page), and cut them out.
When your child finishes a book, write the title of that book onto the achievement using a gel pen or white paint marker (something that will show up against black paper). Hang them on a wall or store them in a book, somewhere your child can proudly watch his/her collection grow.
Now onto this week’s On Beyond Zombie Linky Party!
We unfortunately didn’t have as many link-ups last week as we usually do. The one that stood out to me was a post on Teaching Kids About Inventions, from Planet Smarty Pants. Inventions are a topic that have been coming up quite a bit with LittleMan in recent days and this post outlined some great ideas that I think will really help LittleMan, and other children like him, to better grasp the concept and learn about some of the more important inventions from our past.
It is also worth noting that Planet Smarty Pants has a FANTASTIC Pinterest board For Future Engineers.
Remember, if you link up with us this week then you might get featured next week! And even if you don’t get featured, the posts you share with be pinned and re-shared throughout our social media platforms.
It’s not required to follow your hosts, though we appreciate your Likes and Follows!
