But, as the seasons change, my children are finding frustration with my simple rules for outdoor play: you can be wet OR you can be cold, but you can not be playing outside wet AND cold.
As much as I advocate for daily outdoor play during all seasons, freezing rain just isn’t safe to play in!
Recently we had such weather and both of my children were just beside themselves, sitting in the window just staring at the rain. It looked like a scene from The Cat in the Hat!
I was in the middle of cleaning out our art studio and storage closet that day and I happened upon some dry erase crayons.
We’d had these dry-erase crayons at least 2 years but never used them! So I opened the package and invited the kids to color on the window.
I don’t know why I never thought to do this before! Coloring on the windows was a fun way to explore light and shadow on a cold, wet day. LittleMan took it upon himself to try spelling some words to go with his pictures. And best of all, when they were done everything wiped clean very easily, no elbow grease necessary.
