Last year we put together our own twist on a fairy garden: a zombie garden.
Right now we are staying with family so we don’t really have the ability to grow a little container garden for our zombies at the moment, so we created this faux garden instead.
Materials used were small cookie sheet base ($1 at Dollar Tree), two bunches of silk leaves ($2 at Dollar Tree), and two canisters of black playdough ($1 at Walmart). Normally we like homemade playdough however I was feeling a bit lazy and the store bought stuff works just as well, though I wish they had brown available instead of black.
Talking about zombies is an excellent gate way to discussing emergency plans with your children for all sorts of events. I’ve used the idea of a zombie apocalypse to prompt LittleMan into discussion about what to do incase of power outages, fires, tornadoes, etc.. And when you have little zombie figurines, they can really encourage fine motor and small world imaginative play.
